School
Many children in Uganda do not have access to education because of poverty, lack of infrastructure, and child labor. At Suubi Community Primary School we offer a meaningful holistic education to over 350 children and it’s a place where children are given hope. With good and well-trained teachers, we encourage our children to grow in knowledge and believe in themselves.
Our school plan is to create opportunities for these children beyond classrooms. We want to nurture an environment that puts our children in a position where they can look at the world beyond their current circumstances, dream big, and reach for the impossible. We want to offer an education that is beyond memorizing facts and make it more practical with life skills.
We are aiming to inspire the children to reach higher and discover their individual gifts. Our school mixes learning with implementation. There are hands-on learning sessions, music classes, sports, critical thinking, and problem-solving activities, and an opportunity for the children to truly discover their individuality. We endorse different school clubs where the students can grow in responsibility, social interactions, creativity, and leadership skills. We want to create room for each student individually and as part of a community to discover their strengths and social value.
Our school is divided into preschool, primary school, and secondary school which we recently started. In Uganda, the school year starts in January and is divided into 3 terms. Pupils have a few weeks’ vacation between the terms.
Women for Development
Women in Africa are the fabric that stitches together a community and they are a powerful tool that can deliver sustainable community development. Our Women for development program started in 2018 aims to empower women through farming entrepreneurship and technology skills to become tools of sustainable community development.
We train and mentor girls who have dropped out of school and women in rural communities to take on farming and tech-related skills to start, manage, and grow small businesses. Framing and Technology entrepreneurship are male-dominated ventures in Uganda, and through this program, we can use the two to empower women to contribute just as equally and fundamentally to the community as men. Women represent the majority of the workforce in Uganda’s agriculture sector but they have disadvantages compared to men due to lack of transportation, lack of education, inequalities, and access to resources.
Our goal is to bridge the gender gap and eliminate gender-based violence and family poverty by empowering women. An empowered woman is not part of the problem, but a solution to these problems.
Through 3 months of training, mentorships, and the provision of credit loans we are empowering women to become financially independent. The program contains a toolset for beginners in entrepreneurship and prepares them to lead a small business. Our demo farm helps the women to develop techniques practically and to apply the skills learned in the classroom. We encourage fair purchases to obtain economic growth and we support the women in developing confident negotiability. Over 220 women have gone through this program in the last years and currently, 82 women have managed to start and sustain small agricultural businesses and can earn income to sustain their families.
