About Us

How We Do It?

Our Approach

The word HOPE in our local language means (Suubi). Suubi Community Development Organisation looks at rural social and economic development through a lens of love and empowerment. We address the lack of opportunities to create sustainable living. Our approach is customized to the community’s needs and economic opportunities.

By working closely with the community, local leaders, and local churches, we are building dynamic plans specific to the community where we work. A result that comes out of this process is a network of support for the community with like-minded individuals, working towards the same goal.

Through a combination of entrepreneurial mentorship, meaningful education, vocational training and job creation SCDO’s goal is holistically set to transform communities to sustainability. Suubi Community Development Organization is currently focusing on our work in kakindu_Mubende, Uganda where we run a primary school that supports over 334 children to get a meaningful education as well a women business center that trains and mentors women and young girls that have dropped out of school to start and manage small businesses.

These two programs are quickly proving to be a replicable solution to rural social and economic development for the children, the women and the communities as a whole. Our strategy is to remind these children of their value and raise up a generation of “change agents” who will positively impact their own communities and nation. We are setting up social economic empowerment programs that will provide practical assistance to the extreme poor in this community through village outreaches, providing fresh water wells, medical care and extend more entrepreneurship training and mentorship to the women.

Our Story

Daniel Sebugwawo

Founder and Director of Suubi Community Development Organisation

Suubi Community Development organisation’s story is a story of HOPE. My great-grandparents originally lived in a small village of Kakindu, Mubende District 4 hours’ drive from the main capital city Kampala. I often visited this breathtaking village with my family since I was 11 years old and I paid not much attention to the circumstances of the people who lived in this village then.

After over 15 years, I once again visited this village and as I walked around I saw a makeshift structure packed with over 50 children. It was the only school in the village at a distance of over 10 kilometers. I found it very unsettling. When I returned to Kampala, I thought for days about these kids.

I remember the huge smiles and lighted-up eyes daring to HOPE for a better life taking a chance to get an education. Their struggles reflected my struggles growing up as an orphan staying with my grandmother. I experienced firsthand the punishing pain of poverty.

I often went to school and spent many days on an empty stomach. I did not always perform so well in school and that almost made me drop out of school but at the core of my heart, I knew getting an education was my way through to live a meaningful life.

A group of missionaries with a charity organization picked me up, supported me to stay in school, and encouraged me to aim for something beyond my current circumstances. I started Suubi Community Development Organization to give HOPE, and reduce poverty by empowering and facilitating economic development and sustainability in underserved rural communities through, providing access to meaningful education and vocational programs as well as entrepreneur mentorship to young adults with a candid attention to women.
